Removals and storage in Spain through covid and the new brexit 90 day rule explains what is occurring now. Although removals within Indalo Storage have continued, things are now harder. Everything will get even harder on January 1st. This is when the Brexit 90-day rule takes effect, for those who are not resident in Spain. This is a direct result of the UK leaving the European Union.
Many people returned to the UK from Spain before, during, and after Spain’s lockdown earlier this year.
Since then very few people have returned. The threat of a second viral wave, compulsory use of face coverings and lockdown has kept many away. When the rules governing movement are so tight, many people just don’t want to take the risk.
Difficulties
Many people have been unable to return to the UK with their belongings. The past few months has seen Indalo Transport and Indalo Storage recover and store a mountain of furniture, bicycles and golf clubs for repatriation. Only this week we travelled from Spain to Norwich. This was to reunite several sets of clubs, along with a full removal, to grateful owners.
We first met these clients over three years ago. They had sold a large property in the mountains of the Sierra Filabres and wanted to downsize. They had decided to rent in Spain in the winter and spring, and return to the UK for summer & autumn. It appears that many people are doing the same. With Brexit looming it will probably be a trend going forward. However, this will have to be on a 90 day basis because of the new restrictions coming into force at the end of the year
Storage Half the Year
Our clients had one problem, what to do with their belongings between rents? Indalo Transport had the solution. We moved the items they wanted for the rentals into storage. The rest of the furniture and belongings followed them back to the UK on one of our regular road trains.
Whilst in the UK they planned the winter rental and arranged for us to deliver their goods when they arrived. At the end of each rental period the process was reversed, and we took everything back into storage. This has now been repeated for three years. The most recent was a removal and storage through covid. It’s enabled them to enjoy life in both countries, surrounded by things familiar and treasured.
As they are UK residents, they will have to very careful of the new brexit 90 day rule, but they can still enjoy half the year in the sun, with our help.
